Customization Means Efficiency
Thursday, March 6, 2014

When standard pressure tanks and air receivers do not make the cut, you can turn to Buckeye Fabricating for high-quality custom ASME tanks. Having the ability to specify an ASME tank gives the designer third party control of the tank quality, which can increase efficiency.

Customization Means Efficiency

At Buckeye Fabricating, we custom manufacture carbon steel tanks and stainless steel tanks. Carbon steel tanks are ideal for use in an alkaline environment because the material is resistant to corrosion. Stainless steel tanks are also high-endurance, used mostly for commercial and industrial systems that require the highest quality materials, construction and protection from corrosion and noise.

Consider an air tank as a bag of air. The goal in sizing a tank is to make the bag of air large enough so that when the desired amount of air is put in the tank, the air is not compressed to a pressure greater than system design.

In simpler terms, an air tank is a pressurized receiver into which the compressed air is discharged from the compressor. Air tanks help eliminate pulsation in the air line and act as storage capacity during intervals when the demands exceed the capacity of the compressor. Pressure vessels are measured in terms of liquid gallons. This simply refers to the physical size of the tank. Typically, the larger the tank the more reserve and pressurized air is available for output.

The size of custom air tanks hinges on several factors. First, consider the application when choosing custom process tanks. The type of work you do is probably the most important factor in determining what type and size air compressor is best for you. Work with any customized manufacturer to properly evaluate your needs.

Different businesses have varying requirements for compressed air. Consider the amount of use. For example, there is a big difference between a company which uses the tank for six hours per day, five days a week and one that might need it occasionally and only for a few hours.

Furthermore, consider your demands. Does need remain relatively constant during the day, or do they vary widely?

Last, your size selection should take into account the location. Does your business call for the tank’s ease in mobility? A large tank is much harder to move than its smaller counterpart.

Also, you should decide if your application requires a “vertical” or “horizontal” tank. Both, vertical and horizontal tanks are available from 1 gallon to 35,000 gallons in stainless steel and carbon steel.
